The Sir John Hurt Film Trust, based in Norwich, will be hosting a special community film event at NNUH on Sunday 14 December for young patients and families.

The Magic of Movies event will bring together children, their families and friends for an afternoon of film, fun and connection to support the Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital. Designed especially for children who may be receiving treatment or spending time in hospital, the initiative aims to share the joy and comfort of cinema in a familiar and supportive environment.

The Trust, which works closely with Cinema City Norwich, has developed the event to celebrate the power of film in creating moments of happiness and togetherness. The screening will feature the much-loved animated film Sing, chosen for its uplifting message, music, and universal appeal.

“Sir John believed deeply in the power of film to connect and inspire,” said Elle Gibbons, Event Manager at the Sir John Hurt Film Trust. “This event is all about bringing that spirit to life and creating a shared experience for children and families at a time when joy and togetherness mean so much.”

The event will feature a family-friendly film screening and creative activities, delivered in partnership with the hospital to provide a positive and accessible experience for young patients and their families.

“We’re delighted to be working with the Sir John Hurt Film Trust on this project, it’s a lovely way to bring families together and lift spirits on the ward,” said Kat Kitchener, Children and Young Peoples Matron for Planned Care at NNUH.

The event runs from midday to 3pm on Sunday 14 December in the West Atrium.

The event is generously supported by two local partners: Danns Farm Luxury Ice Cream, who produce their award-winning ice creams and treats on their family farm in Norfolk, and Pip Organic, creators of 100% organic fruit juices and snacks. Both sponsors will be contributing items to make the experience even more special for the children and families attending.
