There will be stands from charities, voluntary groups and partner organisations providing information and advice. In the lecture theatre there will be guest speakers throughout the day discussing a range of topics.
Firstly, Dirck Geary will share his own lived experience with a talk on living with dementia and plans to improve support after diagnosis. From 11.30am we welcome back Prof Michael Hornberger, previously of the UEA, who has now moved to the University of Southampton. He will join us virtually to discuss driving and dementia. In the afternoon there will be a talk from Carers’ Voice on carers’ rights and support available. Our last presentation will be from Dr Naoko Kishita, Associate Professor in Dementia and Complexity in Later Life at the UEA. She will provide an update on exciting research into using online Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for carers.
Liz Yaxley, our Dementia Services Manager, said: “Our Dementia Fayre is hugely popular every year and a great way for people affected by dementia to access in-person advice and support. We’re looking forward to welcoming a host of experts and organisations to the hospital for members of the public and NHS staff to find out more about local support available and the latest research.”
The event will also be attended by Norfolk and Waveney Specialist Dementia Support Service, Age UK Norfolk, Age UK Norwich, Norfolk County Council’s Adult Social Services and Integrated Care Co-ordinators, Norfolk Police, Norfolk Fire and Rescue, Norfolk and Waveney Mind, Carers Voice, the Alzheimer’s Society, NNUH Dementia Support team, NNUH Patient Experience team, NNUH Diabetes team and local dementia support groups.
