Cancer Patient Experience Survey 2024

The results of the Cancer Patient Experience Survey 2024 has highlighted good practice by our colleagues.

The average rating for overall cancer care by patients was the same as last year at 8.9 on a scale of zero to 10.

Jo Richardson, Lead Cancer Nurse, said: “This survey is important because it gives us a real-time insight into the care we provide, the experience of our patients receiving cancer treatment, as well as their families experience. It also highlights areas for us to improve on so that we can continue to provide the best possible care.

“We are now looking closely at the data with each body site team and our patient groups to highlight areas of outstanding care and where we can make any changes if necessary.”

The National Cancer Patient Experience Survey has been designed to monitor progress on cancer care, provide information to drive local quality improvements, assist commissioners and providers of cancer care and to inform the work of the various charities and stakeholder groups supporting cancer patients.

This year’s survey involved 131 NHS Trusts. At NNUH, 940 patients took part, a 60% response rate. Areas of outstanding practice include patients receiving all of the information needed about diagnostic tests in advance and finding advice from their main contact to be very or quite useful.
