Tuberculosis Clinic

The Community TB service currently has one TB Nurse Specialist and one Community TB Nurse who work across NHS Norfolk working with patients who are managed by Respiratory Consultants specialising in tuberculosis based at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn and West Suffolk Hospital at Bury St Edmunds.

We:

  • Visit all newly diagnosed tuberculosis patients, both adults and children and those co-infected with HIV.
  • Offer domiciliary support to:
    • Aid early detection of drug side effects
    • Ensure compliance with treatment and reduce the risk of development of drug resistance and transmission of disease
  • Identify at risk contacts of TB cases and arrange their screening.
  • Run nurse-led Mantoux and BCG clinics for neonates, new entrants to the UK, contacts of TB cases, diagnostic referrals and other ad hoc referrals
  • Advise regarding screening of new immigrants to the country from TB-endemic areas, following the national guidelines and organise the recommended screening
  • Offer advice, information and support to anyone diagnosed with tuberculosis and their contacts
  • Offer advice/ information to healthcare professionals and the general public.
