Sterile Services Department

The Sterile Services Department (SSD) processes 140,000 trays of surgical instruments per year, along with other medical devices for clinical use.

ssd1This department operates 24 hours a day to provide a complete and cost effective decontamination and sterilisation service to a total of 28 operating theatres. The SSD serves the needs of the NNUH hospital, Cromer and District Hospital and local Primary Care Trust as well as many General Practices and Health Centres delivering correctly prepared instruments to where they are needed. The decontamination and sterilization process is performed by a team of over 80 highly experienced sterile services professionals.

roderick2sThe department is designed and built to comply with all the current environmental controls. Decontamination and sterilization equipment is tested, maintained and validated to the highest national standards. The department is fully accredited to ISO 9001:2008; ISO 13485:2003 and the Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC.

ophthalmic insThe department operates 7 wash-disinfectors and 7 steam sterilizers (autoclaves), which are supported by advanced tracking and monitoring software to ensure complete instrument traceability.
