Book your place on our first Black Health and Research Conference

Our NNUH Together Network are organising the first ever Black Health and Research Conference in partnership with colleagues from Norwich Research Park and the University of East Anglia (UEA).

To mark Black History Month, the free event will be held at the Benjamin Gooch Lecture Theatre on Wednesday 23 October between 9.30am and 6.30pm.

For this first event of its kind our health, science and research experts will share their work centred on the black experience. They will be presenting perspectives and discussions on the following topics –

  • Experiences in maternity, birthing and early parenthood (10.15am – midday)
  • Mental health challenges and outcomes (1pm – 2.30pm)
  • Diversity in research, science and health (3pm – 4.30pm)

Roberta Hook, Co-Chair of the NNUH Together Network, said: “I’m thrilled that we are hosting this conference, which is being supported by Norwich Research Park and includes some incredible speakers who are nationally and internationally renowned in their fields of expertise.”

“The evidence shows that black people are less likely to seek mental health treatment, but more likely to be detained under the Mental Health Act. When it comes to maternity care, black women are five times more likely to die in childbirth and have adverse maternal outcomes. And in research and science, a very small percentage of the population are black academic researchers or professors. We are looking forward to discussing these immensely important topics with our panel of experts from across the research park and NHS.”
