£14 million investment in new clinical equipment
We’ve invested £14.041 million in new and replacement clinical equipment to help continue delivering safe and high-quality care.
The investment was made through the 2025/26 Clinical Equipment Replacement Plan (CERP), which supports the replacement of essential medical equipment when it reaches the end of its lifecycle.
Where the funding came from
- £3.74 million from the initial NNUH Capital Plan allocation
- £5.4 million from an NHS Return to Constitutional Standards (RTCS) grant in August 2025
- Further capital funding reallocated from project slippage in December 2025 and January 2026.
Thanks to careful planning and close working across teams, the programme was delivered in just four months, ahead of the 31 March 2026 deadline.
What has been delivered?
- A pharmacy robot to support more efficient and accurate medicines management
- A mobile screening van and mobile X-ray machine for the Breast Screening Service
- A CT imaging system and fluoroscopy screening room
- Radiology upgrades, including two general X-ray rooms and breast imaging equipment
- Theatre equipment, including operating tables and anaesthetic machines
- 67 vital signs monitors and additional patient monitoring systems
- Endoscopy and surgical support equipment, including video laryngoscope systems and a gastro stack
- Digital and imaging platforms, including an imaging system
- A robot simulator to support training and education
- 150 wheelchairs and 61 hydraulic patient trolleys to support patient flow and comfort.
Mark Knowlson, Head of Clinical Engineering, said: “Delivering this level of investment in such a short timespan took a real team effort. This investment will help provide modern, reliable equipment for staff and better support safe, efficient and high-quality care for patients.
“Thank you to everyone involved, including Clinical Engineering, Digital Health, Infection Prevention & Control (IP&C), Care Groups, Procurement and Finance. Special thanks also go to the Care Group Business Support Team and Capital Finance Team for helping co-ordinate the different funding streams.”
