Dad tackles Tough Mudder to raise money for NICU

A dad from Lakenham is taking on a brutal Tough Mudder challenge in a bid to raise money for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH).

Daniel Harrison decided to attempt this challenge after his daughter Mia who was born at 37 weeks on 21 July 2013 weighing 7lb 3oz as a way of saying thank you to the staff on NICU who are still caring for her.

Daniel, along with his work colleagues Richard Davies and Ben Sharman from Norfolk will be tackling this challenge on 6th October in Cheshire. The Tough Mudder events are hard-core 12 mile-long obstacle courses designed by the Special Forces to test participants’ all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie.

Daniel said: “We knew from 23 weeks that Mia would need to be admitted to NICU and we are incredibly grateful for all the specialist equipment and support given to us. This is our way of giving back to NICU and all the fantastic staff and hopefully giving other babies a chance of survival just like Mia.”

Louise Cook, fundraising manager at NNUH, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Daniel, Ben and Richard have decided to attempt such a great challenge to raise money for our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

“This is a very hard 12 mile course with many tough obstacles to overcome so we can’t thank them enough for all their support and want to wish them all the very best and hope they complete the course.”

Louise Cook added: “We are so grateful that people support Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Charitable Fund. Whilst the NHS provides the necessities, the charity funds projects that make the hospital experience a better one for our patients, visitors and staff. We are always looking for people to get involved in fundraising like Daniel, so please contact us if you would like to help.”
