Year of physical activity for NNUH employees

Staff at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH) are set for a year of physical activity, starting on 10th January when the Trust signs up for Active Norfolk’s Workplace Challenge.

There will be a launch event in the main restaurant at the NNUH with Active Norfolk running activities from 9am to 2pm on 10th January.

Stephen Taylor, Director of Human Resources at NNUH, says: “The challenge is a great way for colleagues to get active, feel better, and socialise with other members of staff. Everyone should be able to join in no matter what their level of fitness.“

The Workplace Challenge enables employees to log their levels of sport, or physical activity, such as climbing stairs, walking, or cycling to work over eight weeks online. Every activity that is logged will attract points for the individual and for their workplace. There will be prizes for individuals who have made the most progress and each workplace will be able to compare itself with others on a county leader board.

Active Norfolk’s Workplace Challenge will run until March 2014 when the Trust will launch its own campaign called the 3Fs (Fitness, Fun and Friendship) with the aim of involving 75 per cent of the workforce. There will be a range of activities for all abilities with a new staff walking club, a sponsored swim, a ‘walk the stairs’ campaign, a team-based pedometer challenge, sponsored cycling event, and promotion of the running club.

Active Norfolk is running the Workplace Challenge for 2014, in partnership with County Sports Partnership Network and British Heart Foundation. For more information, go to www.workplacechallenge.org.uk
