Jasmine’s Walk

Local Norfolk family give thanks to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital who have supported a little girl with a rare autoimmune disease.

Jasmine Lewis, aged 10 has a rare condition called Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM), which affects just three children in every million It causes muscle weakness, skin rashes and weakens the immune system and the Fakenham Junior School pupil is one of only 11 known people with JDM in the UK.

To say thank you for the care that Jasmine has received from specialists at the N&N, mum Amanda organised an 8.5 mile sponsored walk which raised more than £1,000 for the hospital. The money will go to the paediatric rheumatology fund, part of the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital’s charity as Jasmine attends three-monthly appointments in this department at the N&N.

Louise Cook, NNUH Fundraising Manager said: “Both Amanda and Jasmine have been so enthusiastic in their fundraising and we are very grateful for all their, and everyone’s hard work supporting this walk. It just shows how people can make a real difference to their local hospital.”

Amanda said: “We are over the moon with the amount raised as we didn’t expect to raise so much and it is wonderful to be able to give something back to the hospital. I can’t thank them enough.”
