Inspirational Childrens’ Week of Fundraising

A young fundraiser from Firside School, Hellesdon has inspired the pupils at her school to raise more than £1,500 for the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Molly Briggs aged 8 years old from Hellesdon, helped by the school council organised a fun-filled week of fundraising at her school, Firside, with all donations going to NICU, where her mum Michelle works as a Sister.

Michelle Briggs, NNUH NICU Sister said: “Molly wanted to fundraise for the department and wrote them a letter explaining how she planned to do this. Molly is very motivated and passionate about the cause and following her initial plans managed to involve the whole school to help her, thanks to the support of the school council and Head of School, Mrs Robinson.”

Various activities arranged at the school included baking cakes, loose change collection, the ‘longest penny line’ competition with classes competing to make the longest line of 1p’s and 2p’s as well as a non-uniform PJ day.

Jane Bennett, NNUH NICU Matron said: “It was lovely to receive the letter from Molly who was so enthusiastic about helping our premature and poorly babies. To then hear that the whole school were going to support us was wonderful. For children to have so many ideas and to do so much to help the babies on our unit is really inspirational.”

Molly said: “I just wanted to raise some money to help the babies get better. I hope the money we have raised makes a difference to the babies and their families.”

Louise Cook, Fundraising Manager commented: “We are incredibly grateful to staff, pupils and parents at Firside Junior School for really making a difference to their local hospital charity. The money raised will help to provide extra support and equipment above and beyond normal NHS funding. ”

To handover the cheque representatives visited the hospital so that they could see first-hand where their money would be going and how it can help.
