Joining together in remembrance of Estrella Catalan
On Monday 8 February, staff from across the Trust joined together in the plaza for a minute’s silence to remember Estrella Catalan. Estrella’s family was also present, and saw from the number of her colleagues gathered in remembrance and the many flowers left outside ED, where she worked, how greatly loved she was and how much she will be missed. At the end of the silence, at the family’s request, staff clapped in tribute to her.
Estrella’s colleagues in the Emergency Department at the James Paget also paid their respects with a minute’s silence and round of applause and by leaving comments on their Facebook page.
Staff from other Trusts and hundreds of members of the public also expressed their condolences and appreciation on social media.
CEO Sam Higginson led the minute’s silence, saying: “Estrella was a much-loved member of staff. She joined the N&N in 2002 and, talking to staff in Gunthorpe, Hayden, the Acute Stroke team and the Emergency Department, she touched so many people’s lives. She was always kind and supportive of colleagues and will be much, much missed.”
There’s also room set aside in the Chaplaincy for Estrella’s friends and colleagues to sit quietly and remember her, as well as a Book of Remembrance that anyone who knew her is welcome to contribute to.
