CDC equipment installation starts
We’re getting closer to our Community Diagnostic Centre opening and have started to install some major equipment.
This week suppliers delivered and are starting to install two MRI scanners, two CT scanners and an X-ray system. In coming weeks, a further three MRI scanners, two CT scanners, a second X-ray system and two Ultrasounds will be delivered.
Teams will start to familiarise themselves with the equipment ahead of opening to patients in early spring.
NNUH Imaging Service Operations Manager, Seshni Mohammed, said: “This marks a significant milestone in providing faster, more accessible healthcare for our community. We’re committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact this facility will have on the wellbeing of our patients.”
Situated on the Norwich Research Park, next to the Quadram Institute and not far from the main hospital, the centre will feature five MRI and four CT scanners, two additional Ultrasound rooms and two X-ray rooms. These are used for diagnosis and monitoring of a wide range of conditions, including cancer, heart disease, stroke, respiratory diseases, trauma, musculoskeletal diseases and neurological conditions and will serve to bring faster diagnosis and ultimately faster treatment for our patients.
The centre will be open between 8am and 8pm seven days a week, and is one of three built at the three hospitals across Norfolk and Waveney. The buildings are funded through an £85.9m capital investment from the Department of Health and Social Care.
The Norfolk and Norwich Hospitals Charity is also supporting this project by pledging £1.6m towards the imaging equipment.
