N&N Hospitals Charity Golf Day to support surgical robot appeal

The Norfolk & Norwich Hospitals Charity is delighted to announce Desira Group as headline sponsor for its first ever Golf Day at Barnham Broom Golf Club.

Golfers will get the chance to win a car at the event, which is supporting the charity’s latest appeal to fund two state-of-the-art surgical robots for use at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

The Golf Day on Thursday 22 May will provide an opportunity for individuals and local businesses to network and engage in a friendly and competitive round of golf while supporting a worthy cause.

The day will begin with tea, coffee and bacon rolls on arrival, followed by an 18-hole competition with handicap.

This will be followed by a two-course meal and evening entertainment, and a charity auction which will include prizes including golf vouchers, signed memorabilia, sporting goods and much more.

The Robotic Surgery team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital has grown significantly in scope and capacity over the last few years with the support of the N&N Hospitals Charity. The team is now a pioneering force in the development of robotic-assisted surgery on an international scale. This means NNUH is ideally positioned to lead future developments in this innovative surgical field.

Robotic-assisted surgery has benefits for patients over open surgery, including reduced pain and blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery times, as well as a reduced risk of readmission post-surgery.  The surgery requires only very small incisions, which are possible thanks to the use of laparoscopic cameras and instruments, controlled remotely by a surgeon, via the robotic system’s console. This allows greater visibility and precision than would be available in conventional open surgery, making procedures easier for surgeons and safer for patients.

Julie Cooper, Head of Charity at the N&N Hospitals Charity, said: “The two robots currently in use at NNUH have already demonstrated clear benefits to patients and staff and the additional robots would build upon these benefits, extending the advantages of robotic-assisted surgery to more areas of the hospital. More patients will undergo safer, less invasive procedures with better surgical outcomes, shorter hospital stays and a reduced need for additional support post-surgery.

“This will mean hospital and clinical resources will be more accessible, with shorter waiting times for many patients within our community.”
