Special clinical interests: Mr McNamara’s elective work covers all aspects of knee surgery, especially primary knee joint replacement, redo (revision) knee replacement as well as arthroscopic surgery and anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction of the knee. In addition he undertakes primary hip replacement and a regular unselected trauma on call.
Professional profile: Mr McNamara undertook his undergraduate training at the University of Cambridge and qualified as a doctor from the University of Oxford in the year 2000.
He undertook his higher surgical training on the East Anglian training rotation with rotations through Cambridge, Norwich and surrounding hospitals. During this time he undertook a research degree (Doctorate of Medicine) at the University of Cambridge, with the research topic investigating the reconstruction of bone following failed joint replacement.
Mr McNamara obtained his specialist fellowship of Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2010 from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He undertook three fellowships, for a total of two and a half years under international experts, with training in sports surgery, including ligament reconstruction, and early arthritis intervention at the University of Western Ontario, Canada; a hip and knee revision arthroplasty fellowship in Nottingham and a trauma fellowship at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.
