Basic surgical training in Oxford 2000-2002, followed by a period of full-time laboratory research in urological oncology at the Institute of Molecular Medicine in Oxford which led to the award of an MD degree and election to the post of Royal College of Surgeons of England Hunterian Professor in 2006. Urological training in the Eastern Deanery 2004-2010- thorough training in general urology with particular expertise in holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) and subspecialty training in partial nephrectomy, complex open nephrectomy, IVC thrombectomy, laparoscopic nephrectomy, cystectomy and urinary diversion.
