Professional profile: Dr Ngozi Elumogo qualified from Medical School in Benin City, Nigeria in 1986. After various house jobs and general medical and surgical house jobs, started training in Medical Microbiology in 1990 at the University College Hospital Ibadan, Nigeria.
In 1994 Dr Elumogo came to the UK as Research Registrar on a British council administered scholarship at the then Public Health Laboratory in Newcastle (Now Health Protection Agency laboratory). She undertook research into Mycobateria tuberculosis.
Thereafter she joined the South East of Scotland training scheme, Edinburgh in 1995 as Specialist Registrar. She spent three years as substantive Specialist Registrar, followed by three years as Clinical Lecturer (Hon. Specialist Registrar) at the University of Edinburgh Medical School, obtaining her Membership of the Royal College of Pathologists in 2001.
Her research for her membership was on Molecular epidemiology of Vancomycin resistant enterococci in the renal unit.
Dr Elumogo also obtained the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the Royal College of Physicians of London April 1998.
On completion of her specialist training Dr Elumogo took up post at the James Paget University Hospital, Great Yarmouth as Consultant Microbiologist in 2002 and also became Director of Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC) in 2006.
In July 2010, Dr Elumogo took up the post of Director of Infection Prevention and Control at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
