Professional profile: Dr Clarke was born in Liverpool and was educated at De La Salle Grammar School. He graduated from the Victoria University of Manchester in 1990 and did the majority of his postgraduate medical training in the North West of England. He undertook sub-specialty training in Neonatal Medicine in Manchester and Liverpool, and also gained overseas experience in 1999-2000 as Neonatal Fellow at The Canberra Hospital, Australia. He has a strong interest in clinical research in neonatal medicine.  In 2008 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine by the University of Manchester for his thesis on the vitamin K status of preterm infants.
