Professional profile: My cardiology practice and research are focused on the major health issues of coronary artery disease. I believe the optimal outcome is best achieved through the use of appropriate medication long term plus relief of the narrowings or blockages by angioplasty or open heart surgery. To that end my training has been in 3 very large cardiac centres in the UK plus I was fortunate enough to have a training fellowship In Amsterdam. My thesis was in the field of 3-dimensional imaging of the coronary artery lumen, through the University of Birmingham.

I was a consultant in a large cardiac surgical centre in Lancashire for 5 years before moving to Norwich in 2009. This was as part of a departmental expansion to deliver 24-hour a day emergency angioplasty to the whole of Norfolk for patients suffering from a heart attack, which successfully improved the results as compared to the use of clot busting injections.

I am very fortunate to work in a dynamic and cohesive department who have been supportive of my clinical and research proposals. The cardiac department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is one of the most experienced centres in the UK in the use of angioplasty with drug delivery without permanent stent implantation and were one of the main contributors to recent important trials in angioplasty including treating difficult branching or dividing blood vessels.

Personal profile: I have a very busy home life (don’t we all!) with twin boys, a daughter (currently all teenagers!) and a golden Labrador. My wife is a GP in south Norfolk.

I share the sporting interests of my family including rugby, football, cricket, dog walking but particularly cycling and tennis.
