Professional profile: I trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Nottingham, following which I completed a three-year sub-speciality training programme in Gynaecological Oncology and advanced laparoscopic surgery. This included a research MD in molecular prognostic markers in ovarian cancer.
I specialise in treatment of gynaecological cancer and colposcopy. I am also experienced in treatment menopausal symptoms, in particular those related to treatment of gynaecological cancer. I specialise in minimally invasive treatments, including robot surgery and sentinel lymph node techniques, as well as ultraradical surgery for ovarian cancer. I am part of the team which introduced HIPEC (heated chemotherapy given during surgery) for treatment of ovarian cancer. We were the first centre in the UK to develop this service. I work closely with the genetics team to assess and treat women with genetic conditions predisposing them to gynaecological cancers.
I am an Associate Professor at the University of East Anglia providing teaching and training to medical students. I am also the course director for a national training course relating to the development of advanced laparoscopic surgery and a Da Vinci Robotic trainer, teaching other consultants across the UK. I maintain an active interest in research through the delivery of several national and international clinical trials, currently including PROTECTOR, ROCKETS, DETECT and CONCEPT.
Personal Profile: I am married with two children, who keep me very busy. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, cycling, and watching the mighty Canaries at Carrow Road!
