NNUH to host second black health and research conference
Following the success of its inaugural event, the Black Health and Research Conference returns to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital this October as part of Black History Month.
Organised by the NNUH Together Network in partnership with colleagues from Norwich Research Park and the University of East Anglia (UEA), the free conference will bring together leading voices from health, science and research to explore health inequalities and champion greater health equity.
The event will take place in the Benjamin Gooch Lecture Theatre on Thursday 8 October, from 10am to 5.30pm, and is open to people of all backgrounds who are interested in increasing their knowledge of health inequalities and strategies to improve health equity for all.
Attendees will hear from nationally and internationally recognised experts who will share insights, research and lived experiences centred on Black health and wellbeing. Topics will include:
- The Black Health Gap – the latest developments in fibroids, sickle cell disorder and maternity care
- The Campus response – how organisations across Norwich Research Park are working to tackle health inequalities
- Honouring Our Communities – recognising and celebrating the often unseen contributions of people making a difference within their communities
Hawa Ocheni, Senior Contracts Specialist and Co-Chair of the NNUH Together Network, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the Black Health and Research Conference for a second time and to build on the success of our inaugural event with our health and research partners. This year’s programme features a broad range of speakers with diverse experience and will provide an important opportunity to explore these vital issues, share knowledge and help improve the Black experience across the research park and beyond.”

Roberta Hook, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, who will be chairing the panel discussion at the event, added: “This conference provides an important opportunity to highlight health inequalities that continue to affect Black communities, while showcasing the work being undertaken across Norwich Research Park to improve outcomes through research, education and partnership. The event creates a valuable space to share knowledge, celebrate community contributions and strengthen our collective commitment to reducing health inequalities and improving care for all.”
