Pregnant and breastfeeding women can now access Covid-19 jabs at hospital antenatal clinic
Pregnant and breast-feeding women and their partners can now access Covid-19 vaccinations at a new clinic being launched by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust and NNUH.
Jo Metcalfe, Clinical Operations Lead for the Norfolk and Waveney Vaccination Centres run by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust said:
“As a registered Midwife, I know that new mums and mums to be can have lots of questions about the vaccine.
“Delivering vaccinations from within the hospital’s antenatal clinic will enable mums and their partners to have their vaccination in a relaxed environment where they can also ask our vaccination team – which includes registered midwives – any questions they have.
“Covid-19 vaccines offer pregnant women the best protection against Covid-19 disease which can be serious in later pregnancy for some women, so we want to make it as easy as possible for women to access accurate information, as well as the vaccine itself.”
Gemma Partridge, Consultant Obstetrician at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, added:
“As well as the vaccination clinic, we’re also organising a webinar which will be open to anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding and their partners to enable them to ask any questions they have about the vaccine, as well as hear the latest information about Covid-19 during pregnancy. Details will be posted on our social media sites in the near future.
“Pregnant women with symptomatic Covid-19 are more likely to need intensive care admission than women of the same age who are not pregnant and are also two to three times more likely to have their babies early than women without Covid-19.
“I’d encourage anyone who is pregnant and/or breastfeeding to come along to the dedicated vaccination clinic and ask the experts any questions they have.”
The vaccination team will be at the hospital’s ante-natal clinic on:
- Tuesday 24 August
- Wednesday 1 September
- Friday 3 September
- Tuesday 7 September
- Thursday 9 September
The vaccination clinics will run from 08:00 to 16:00. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding (or a partner of someone who is pregnant or breast-feeding) you can come along to the vaccination clinic – no appointment needed – just drop in when it’s convenient to you. Please ensure you have had a lateral flow test before coming to the clinic.
