Urgent and Emergency Care Survey success
The results of the 2024 Urgent and Emergency Care Survey have been published, which show praise for the care given to patients at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH).
The national survey, published by the Care Quality Commission, assesses the experience of people using urgent and emergency care services, including Emergency Departments (ED), urgent treatment centres or minor injuries units.
The survey results provide benchmark data and Trusts across the country are scored as either better or worse, when compared to others. NNUH’s results were about the same as most others for the majority of questions, but the Trust performed better than most in several areas.
More than 300 patients were surveyed about NNUH’s ED. Results showed the department scored better than most Trusts for the following five questions:
- Were you told why you had to wait with the ambulance crew?
- If you had any anxieties or fears about your condition or treatment, did a doctor or nurse discuss them with you?
- Before you left A&E, did a member of staff explain the results of the tests in a way you could understand?
- While you were in A&E, did you feel safe around other patients or visitors?
- To what extent did you understand the information you were given on how to care for your condition at home?
More than 200 patients completed the survey for urgent care they received at Cromer and District Hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit and NNUH. Results show the Trust scored better than most for two questions:
- While you were waiting, were you able to get help with your condition or symptoms from a member of staff?
- While you were in the Urgent Treatment Centre, did you feel safe around other patients or visitors?
Across both surveys NNUH did not score much worse, worse or somewhat worse than most Trusts in any area.
Johnny Wells, ED Senior Matron, said: “These are fantastic results which are down to all the hard work the ED team have been doing these last few years. It is affirmation that we care and strive to inform and keep our patients safe. It is great to see that we scored better than most of our comparable EDs.”
