Non-pandemic Influenza 4.1
Overview
Trust Guideline for: The antiviral drugs oseltamivir and zanamivir are used for the treatment and prophylaxis of influenza. In the event of an influenza outbreak it is imperative that action is taken quickly in order to reduce transmission and to keep the number of cases to a minimum thereby reducing the burden on the hospital and staff in terms of sickness. Oseltamivir and zanamivir are effective in reducing symptoms duration of symptoms and improving return to normal activity reducing the requirement for antibiotics and hospitalisation and reducing the probability of dying.
