Technical Skills Laboratory

The Technical Skills Laboratory (TSL) is a specialised clinical teaching resource, used to facilitate and enhance the Trust’s postgraduate education programme. The TSL offers the following facilities:

Surgical / Medical

  •          Three Endoscopy Training Systems with Upper/Lower training models
  •          Endoscopy Simulator with Upper/Lower GI & Bronchoscopy Modules
  •          Five Helago Laparoscopic trainers (allowing individual practise)
  •          Four Laparoscopic Stack Systems with Abdominal Simulators including needle holders,  graspers, scissors, ports and a range of skills boards
  •          Large range of medical training models including: IV arm, Central Venous Cannulation, Chest Drain, Arterial Arm, Male Catheterisation, Lumber Puncture etc.
  •          Trans Vaginal Ultrasound Simulator
  •          Joint Injection Models for Shoulder, Elbow, Hand and Knee
  •          Two full skeletons, four Upper Limb and four Lower Limb skeletons
  •          Extensive range of surgical instruments
  •          Four Ophthalmoscopes and four Laryngoscopes

Dental

  •         Twelve fully equipped Dental Stations with Phantom Heads, Portable Reclining Dental             Examination Chair and portable Examination Lighting
  •         Endodontic Digital X-Ray Unit (Schick Technologies)
  •         Global Surgical Microscope with video output
  •         Six Curing Lights (4 LED)
  •         16 surgical instruments sets and a broad range of general purpose dental instruments

Audio/Visual

  •        Data Projector, Visualiser, VCR, Slide Projector, Camcorder and Digital Camera outputting to three large Colour Monitors
  •         Large portable Plasma Screen (42”)

General

  •        Preparation room with hot and cold water, HTM 2030 compliant washer/disinfector, large fridge, freezer and ultrasonic cleaning bath
  •        Animal Tissue can be sourced/provided to provide training simulation models
  •        Hand washing facilities with “Glow & Tell Light Boxes”
