The Stoma Care Service 

• Information giving and emotional support for patients and their families, including an explanation of treatment options and symptom control.
• Pre-operative counselling for forthcoming stoma surgery.
• Post-operative patient education with practical advice and support.
• Co-ordinated discharge planning involving the hospital and community multi-disciplinary teams.
• Counselling to promote post-operative psychological, social and sexual rehabilitation.
• Free access to the Stoma Care Dept. for ongoing support.
• Telephone help line 9am-5pm and 24hr answer machine
• A consultation service for all health professionals involved with colorectal cancer, ostomy and reconstructive patients and those with discharging/fistulating wound care needs.
• Involvement in current research based activities related to the development of care for patients.
