Divisional and Corporate Services

The Human Resources team comprises:

  • Director of Human Resources (a member of the Board of Directors)
  • Deputy Director of Human Resources
  • Divisional HR Managers assisted by HR Officers and secretarial staff

They provide strategic and operational advice to the Trust on all aspects of HR management including policies and procedures, employment law and performance management.

The Trust is at a key point in its development following the completion of the move to the new hospital in 2002.  We have a tremendous platform on which to build and consolidate our reputation as one of the top acute teaching hospital trusts in the country.

Agenda for Change

In partnership with unions, the Trust is midway into implementing the new NHS pay system which will cover all directly employed NHS staff, except doctors and dentists and the most senior managers. It will offer:

  • Greater scope to create new kinds of jobs, bringing more patient-centred care and more varied and stimulating roles for NHS staff
  • Fairer pay
  • Harmonised conditions of service for NHS staff
  • A more transparent system of rewards for staff who work flexibly outside normal working hours
  • Better links between career and pay progression

Improving Working Lives

Improving Working Lives is a central theme of the NHS plan and is aimed at Improving the Working Lives of all NHS Staff. The standard was launched nationally in October 2000 and all NHS employers are assessed on their performance in the following areas:

  • Human Resources Strategy and Management
  • Equality and Diversity
  •  Staff Involvement and Communication
  • Flexible Working
  • Healthy Working
  •  Training and Development
  •  Flexible Retirement, Childcare and Support for Carers

The Trust has achieved the Pledge and Practice awards and is working towards achieving the Practice Plus award in 2005.
