The Department of Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgery at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital comprises of three consultants providing the full range of upper GI speciality services for NNUH and the region as a whole, namely:

Cancer Surgery

The upper GI team regularly perform surgery for upper GI cancers and work in close co-operation with the Cancer Network, colleagues in gastroenterology, oncology and other hospitals in other regions.

Operations Performed

  • Gastrectomy
  • Oesophagectomy
  • Liver resection
  • Kausch Whipple’s pancreatectomy (pancreatic cancer)
  • Liver resection (liver cancer and liver cancer secondaries)
  • Hilar liver resections (cholangiocarcinoma)

 Benign Work:

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (over 500 per year)
  • Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication (for reflux disease)
  • Laparoscopic adrenalectomy
  • Laparoscopic and open hernia repair
  • Laparoscopic splenectomy
  • Laparoscopic liver resection
  • Staging laparoscopy.
