Postnatal Ward – Blakeney Ward

What we offer

Blakeney Postnatal ward is an inpatient ward dedicated to caring for women/birthing people and their babies following birth. Blakeney is a 32-bed postnatal ward with four six bedded bays and eight side rooms.

The side rooms are usually allocated to people dependent on care needs.

One of the side rooms has facilities designed to enable those using wheelchairs easy access to the ensuite bathroom & toilet and has a hearing loop system. Please speak to a member of staff if you have any special requirements.

Blakeney ward supports the transition from birth until discharge home. The Midwives, Midwifery care Assistants, physiotherapists, hearing screening team, neonatal team and obstetric doctors work together to provide postnatal care.

There are several reasons that you may stay on Blakeney ward. Examples include following Caesarean section, forceps, suction cup, repair of a third-degree tear, infant feeding support, additional observation for yourself or your baby and recovery following heavy bleeding or infection.

General midwifery checks, observations, pain relief and feeding support is offered on Blakeney ward. Newborn Hearing Screening tests will also be offered.

Your birthing partner will be able to stay with you except for ‘Quiet Time’ between 1pm and 3pm. Please refer to the NNUH visitor guide for further information.

How do I make this choice?

There are certain situations where it is recommended that you stay on Blakeney ward as outlined in the examples above. If you chose to stay on Blakeney for any other reason, then let your Midwife know following the birth of your baby. This does not need to be booked in advance.

Blakeney ward does not offer private facilities.
