Departmental overview

The Gastroenterology Department provides an excellent range of services delivered by our dedicated multidisciplinary team of clinicians, nurses and administrative staff. We strive to deliver the highest quality care through clinical governance and patient feedback and continually improve services.

A range of our endoscopy and bowel cancer screening services are based at the Quadram Institute, close to NNUH on Norwich Research Park. Due to increasing demand and a need to screen a broader age range for diagnostic and potential preventative reasons, we’re expanding our services for bowel screening and endoscopy.

The Quadram Institute houses our regional endoscopy  service, providing state-of-the-art facilities for patients and where clinicians work alongside scientists to conduct research to improve health and wellbeing. In-patient services remain at the hospital.

The Gastroenterology team at Quadram Institute can conduct at least 40,000 procedures a year, making it one of the largest endoscopy centres in Europe.

The multi-million pound facility is a partnership between NNUH, Quadram Institute Bioscience (formerly the Institute of Food Research) and the University of East Anglia and is a world-class centre for food and health research.

We’re one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in the UK and provide a regional bowel screening programme and one of the biggest colorectal surgery and gastrointestinal endoscopy services in the UK.
