Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit

What we offer

The Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) is a specially designated area for caring for and managing problems early in your pregnancy, between 6 – 16 weeks. These may include vaginal bleeding or abdominal pain. You may be seen in EPAU if you have experienced problems in previous pregnancies including previous ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy or recurrent pregnancy losses.

How will I be referred?

You will be referred to the EPAU by your GP, Nurse, Midwife or hospital doctor. Once a referral has been made, please call EPAU directly between 8.30 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday, or 8.30 am to 1 pm at weekends, to book your appointment. You will be offered the next available appointment; this is usually within 48 hours. This may not be on the same day you call the department.

Who will I see?

Whilst on the EPAU you may be seen by a,

  • Nurse
  • Doctor
  • Health Care Assistant
  • Specialist Nurse Sonographer
  • Sonographer (a person who specialises in ultrasound scanning)

Location

EPAU is located on the Cley Gynaecology ward, West Block, Level 3.

Please use the Inpatients West and Centre entrance/s and follow the signs to Cley ward/EPAU.

If you are coming by car and need to park, the closest car park/s are M, N, O.

If the car park is full, spaces may be available in the public car park opposite A&E, which is operated independently
