Welcome to the Maternity Triage
The Maternity Triage is here to support you with urgent pregnancy concerns. We are located on Level 3, West Block, Delivery Suite, NNUH. Our team are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide advice, assessment, and care.
Who we care for
We provide care to anyone who is over 18 weeks pregnant. You can self-refer if you have urgent concerns.
What we offer
- Urgent assessments for pregnancy concerns
- A comfortable bay with four couches, a rapid assessment room, and a single room
- Care from midwives, doctors, and healthcare support workers
If you think you are in labour, please call Triage before arrival. We will perform an initial assessment before transferring you to your chosen place of birth—either the midwife-led birthing unit or the delivery suite—while supporting your preferences throughout the process.
When to call
Please contact us if you experience:
- Signs of labour
- Abdominal pain
- Waters breaking
- Reduced or changed baby movements from 26/40 (if you are 22+0 to 25+6 weeks pregnant, please call Community Midwifery Connect on 01603 287239).
- Any vaginal bleeding
- Itching in pregnancy from 35 weeks (if you are 18 – 34+6 weeks pregnant please call Community Midwifery Connect on 01603 287239).
- High blood pressure symptoms (headache, vision problems, feeling unwell)
- Any other urgent concerns
