Pre-existing Diabetes

What we offer

A multidisciplinary team clinic, with Obstetric and Diabetes staff members. Following a positive pregnancy test you can self-refer to the antenatal clinic by calling the Diabetes specialist midwives. You will be offered an early pregnancy ultrasound scan at around 7 weeks pregnant and an appointment in the clinic at least every 4 weeks. This can be more frequent at the start of pregnancy to support you with your glucose levels. We offer routine growth scans usually every 4 weeks from 28 weeks unless indicated sooner. The purpose of the clinic is to provide specialist pregnancy and diabetes care in addition to your Community Midwife appointments.

The team will make sure you have access to the appropriate monitoring and treatment options to manage your blood glucose levels, including the use of continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps and hybrid-closed loop insulin therapy.

We specialise in planning for your birth, infant feeding and future contraceptive choices, the team will support your wellbeing in a friendly, supportive manner and refer to other specialists if needed.
