Patient and Public Involvement

Share your feedback, experiences and work with us to make improvements

We constantly strive to become an outstanding organisation with an exceptional patient and carer experience where people feel listened to, action is taken and we work in partnership with patients and carers, especially those who are seldom heard, to continuously improve.

One of our key ambitions is that working in partnership with patients becomes the norm, there is a strong Patient Voice including those who are seldom heard and that services and pathways are co-designed with patients, staff and other stakeholders.

Below, we have listed the things we currently do, so you can pick the level of engagement and involvement that is right for you.

We know that not everyone wants to engage with us on a regular basis, and that’s fine – if there is a way that you would like to engage or be involved that is not listed – let us know.

For further information on all things patient engagement and involvement email  patient.experience@nnuh.nhs.uk

Just want to know what is going on?

For information on events and opportunities throughout the year, you can keep up to date via the website, our social media channels and The Pulse magazine – free to hospital members.

Want to give us feedback, a compliment or raise a concern or complaint?

Feedback is really important to us and you can give us feedback any time to suit you by taking part in our Friends and Family surveys and other surveys from time time.

You can also tell us when things go right by sending a compliment.

The sooner you tell us when things are not going well, the better, and we encourage you to liaise directly with ward and clinic staff as soon as you feel something needs addressing. You can also contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service or make a formal complaint.

Get more involved

Our regular ways to get involved and work in partnership to make improvements are listed below.

We have a number of groups which meet regularly and whose members work closely with staff across the Trust to review feedback, share experiences and work together to improve services.

Further information for these groups is via patient.experience@nnuh.nhs.uk

Patient Panel

Our Patient Panel is a group of volunteers with a range of lived experiences of NNUH services. They represent patients, families and carers and are passionate about ensuring we provide the best care for every patient. They work with clinical and non-clinical staff across the Trust in a range of ways ensuring that the views of patients, carers and relatives are sought, co-ordinated, fed back and used.

Youth Forum

Our Youth Forum aims to give patients aged 13-19 a say in what happens in their health care and the development of services for children and young people. Anyone who has used our services can join the Youth Forum, including patients who visit regularly with a long-term health condition, their siblings and those admitted as an emergency. The Forum meets throughout the year to work on projects around the hospital that young people tell us they want. You can hear more about it from some of our founding Youth Forum members in an episode of our podcast.

Carers’ Forum

Listening to Carers is important to us and we want to ensure that carers are involved in the planning, design and evaluation of our services at the hospital – which is why we’ve set up our Carers’ Forum.

Military Community Working Group

We have a dedicated group called The Military Community Working Group which is made up of staff, supporting organisations and patient panel members who have a connection to or lived experience of military life. The group meets every other month to discuss service improvement and policy which impacts people from the Military Community.

Email patient.experience@nnuh.nhs.uk to find out more.

Norwich Maternity Voices Partnership (NMVP)

Norwich Maternity Voices Partnership (NMVP) is an NHS working group, a mix of individuals who use or provide maternity services. It takes forward issues raised by maternity services users (mostly, parents and parents-to-be), by looking at aspects of the service in detail and making recommendations for improvements. There are several ways to get involved with the NMVP, get in touch to share your personal experiences, raise an issue or to become a service user representative.

Patient Information Forum

Our Patient Information forum is a group of patient representatives, healthcare and other professionals who meet once a month. The Forum review patient information leaflets to ensure that national accessible standards are met and that the information is clear and understandable.

We welcome new members so feel free to email forum@nnuh.nhs.uk.

Other Groups and Committees

We work with over 60 groups with patient and public representation managed by specialties who meet throughout the year to discuss suggestions for improvements. We also work closely with several voluntary organisations such as Keeping Abreast and the Norfolk Liver Group who also meet to raise any issues and feed these back to us.

Healthwatch

Healthwatch is the independent consumer champion created to gather and represent the views of the public. Healthwatch aims to make sure that the views of the public and people who use services are taken into account.
