UKAS accreditation
On 17 November 2012 the Radiology Department of the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust obtained Imaging Services Accreditation Scheme (ISAS) accreditation. ISAS accreditation was maintained until it was replaced by the Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) in 2019, and Radiology successfully continued to maintain its accreditation until 2024. In 2024 we successfully transitioned to BS 70000 and following an on-site annual assessment in July 2024 our department was assessed against both QSI and BS 70000 standards and we were again successful in maintaining our accreditation.
The department completed its annual assessment in July 2025, which involved assessors reviewing all aspects of our service, and we have again successfully maintained our UKAS accreditation.
We are proud to have maintained our UKAS accreditation which demonstrates our commitment to ensuring we provide the highest standards of care for all those who visit and are cared for in our department.
What is BS 70000?
BS 70000 is a British Standard that specifies requirements for quality, safety and competence in medical physics, clinical engineering, and associated scientific services within healthcare. This national standard is applicable to diagnostic and interventional radiology in addition to other science services in healthcare.
There are 47 services accredited to BS 70000 for diagnostic imaging services which has been awarded alongside UKAS accreditation to the Quality Standard for Imaging, QSI.
UKAS accreditation for diagnostic imaging plays a crucial role in ensuring quality care and patient safety through thorough assessment by independent competent radiographers and radiologists. UKAS has been delivering accreditation to diagnostic imaging services for over a decade using its robust assessment and accreditation process within its role as the sole National Accreditation Body for the United Kingdom. Delivery of government recognised accreditation requires UKAS to operate in accordance with international standards and to have access to expertise to conduct assessments and provide advice on the application of accreditation criteria.
