Haematology
Welcome to the Haematology department. Haematology is the branch of medicine and pathology that is concerned with the study of blood, the blood-forming organs and blood diseases. Here at the NNUH the department delivers a comprehensive Haematological service which is able to manage both common and rare blood disorders. We manage a large diagnostic laboratory service providing a broad range of routine and specialist blood testing.
If you have recently been told you have or are suspected of having a blood cancer, you will have already met some of the people involved in your care. In Haematology, our healthcare professionals work within a specialist Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). Our MDT members are experts at treating and managing cancer and blood disorders. They are involved with your investigations, diagnosis and treatment.
The majority of our patients are managed as outpatients in the Colney Centre and Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) clinic. Treatment is provided on our Weybourne Day Unit (WDU) and Aylsham Medical Day Unit (AMDU).
Usually our inpatients are managed on the Haematology ward (Mattishall), or the dedicated Oncology ward (Mulbarton). Emergency admissions will usually come in via the Acute Medical Unit.
Please note due to COVID-19 we have reduced the number of patients who can attend the Colney Centre. We are able to offer virtual consultations via telephone and video call. If you would like your appointment to be delivered virtually, please contact your Consultant’s secretary.
