Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Service

The Speech and Language therapy service supports Preterm babies, infants, children and young people with eating, drinking and swallowing.

The Speech and Language therapist will see neonates, children and young people under the care of a neonatologist or paediatrician with feeding or swallowing difficulties and who are an in-patient on the neonatal unit or Buxton ward.

Speech and Language therapists work in partnership with individuals, their families/carers and with other members of the Multidisciplinary team. We aim to reduce the impact of feeding and swallowing difficulties on children’s well-being, including reducing the risk of aspiration, malnutrition, and growth delays and to protect the neurodevelopment of premature and medically complex infants.

We will support the smooth transition from hospital care to ongoing community Speech and Language Therapy by providing appropriate referrals and support plans.

Please speak to your nurse if you would like support from this service.
