Interventional Radiology

The Norfolk Centre for Interventional Radiology opened in Autumn 2020, providing minimally invasive procedures using advanced radiological image guidance (x-rays, ultrasound and CT). Risk to patients is generally lower and recovery times faster than open surgery. With a new recovery area, patients will benefit from same sex facilities and increased levels of day case procedures.

The unit has four interventional suites and is equipped with advanced radiological image guidance technology. The High Specification C-arms have peri-operative CT-like imaging and special guidance software that enable blood vessels feeding tumours to be identified and blocked.  It also demonstrates safe routes for inserting Gastrostomy feeding tubes, and supports endovascular aneurysmal repair (EVAR), which is a minimally invasive procedure to insert a graft without the need for major surgery.
